The best place that Michelle has ever visited!

I'm lucky to have traveled and explored many cities and countries over the past several years. The best and most memorable place I’ve been to is the beautiful Portuguese town known as Sintra. Sintra is located in the north of Portugal in the Lisbon region. I went there on a day trip from Lisbon with a group of friends and I have to say it's one of the coolest places I've ever been to. Just a 45 minute train ride from Lisbon, this city is well worth the trip.

When I first got off the train I remember seeing so much green, so much vegetation, trees, bushes and plants. It was beautiful. Upon arrival to Sintra we weren't sure what we wanted to do. After looking at a map we decided that we would only have time to walk around the town, have lunch and visit one historic landmark. We decided that we would visit an old mansion called Quinta da Regaleira which is famous for its unique history, symbolic carvings associated with Masonry and the Knights Templar and its gardens.

It was a cloudy and a cool rainy day (as you can see from the picture above) and at first I didn't have high expectations for the mansion. I remember thinking, “Will it be worth the visit? Should we plan to spend our time maybe going to the palace in Sintra instead?” I wasn't sure if I wanted to be outside. I'll admit at first I didn’t have high expectations.

On the way to the mansion we saw a little waterfall.  It was surrounded by so many plants and vegetation it was beautiful! Take a look at some pictures.

We arrived to the mansion and I was amazed.  It was incredible!  Look at these pictures of the mansion and gardens.  It  looks like something out of a fairy tale, doesn’t it?

Walking around the gardens of the mansions there were many little castles like these ones!

But the coolest thing of all were the two initiation wells that you could climb down into and explore.  These wells were not used to collect water but for special secret events.  Here’s are pictures from the bottom of each well.  At the bottom of these wells you could walk through tunnels and caves that would lead to fountains and lakes.  I felt like I was in a fairy tale.

After the mansion we went to a famous bakery called Piriquita and there we had a coffee and a special pastry that’s very famous in Sintra called travesseiro (this means little pillow in English).  It was heavenly! The best pastry I’ve ever had in my life! It was light, fluffy, buttery and had a sweet almond taste.  Incredible!!

Sintra definitely has been one of the best places I’ve ever been to.  I would recommend it to anyone!  Please leave a comment about my post and if you have any questions I’ll be happy to
answer them.  :)

  1. Hi Michelle, I'm Inés! I've never heard about Sintra, but it definitely looks so cool. It really seems like something out of a fairy tale and all the vegetation that surrounded it just make it looks more wonderfull. I wouldn't ming going to such an awesome place.
I've never been to Portugal, but I've been in amazing places within and outside Spain. It's hard to choose one, but I think the best place that I ever visited is the Generalife. It's so close to my town, but I think you don't need to go far to see a lot of impressive places. The Generalife is a palace in the Alhambra (one of my favorites places in the world). I have been there a lot of times with the school, but, the more I see it the more I like it. There is plenty of water and vegetation that makes you feel fresh. Everytime I go, I imagine how it was like living there and I think that I would love just to be alone there, sitting under a tree and reading a book while I can only listen the relaxing sound of the water.
I recommend it definitely! Here I leave some pictures:

    1. Hi Michelle, I'm Veronica! I've never heard of that place and I have visited but I see it's a beautiful place. Sintra seems like a cool place, full of greenery and a perfect place to visit. In addition it reminds me of the places described in the books and they are awesome. I have never visited Portugal but, I have met many other places where it is difficult to choose. I think not have to travel far to find an unforgettable landscape, such as the Alpujarra. Busquistar is a small and quiet village. landscapes, lush vegetation and its sources are characterized. I go every weekend and enjoy nature. It is a people whom I appreciate for all the memories of my childhood. I will recommend that you visit it. Here I leave a few pictures of Busquistar.

On site I liked most on every trip I've done, is Marseille. I was traveling with the institute in the draft language immersion.
What I liked most were the cathedrals, and the bay.
We were visiting the old and modern part of Marseille. We stayed to sleep in the homes of people there who welcomed us. That was in La Ciotat, a town near Marseille.
Honestly that trip was extraordinary and I would to repeat that. http://www.google.es/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=11&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiOztPWtoTMAhXLfhoKHZvvDLkQFgg6MAo&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.france-voyage.com%2Ffrancia-fotos%2Fciotat-175.htm&usg=AFQjCNEC8ycdEgG7IVnk9FgHeHmMqVsI4g

  6. Hello Michelle, I'm Antonio Manuel. I've never been in Sintra but I know about it. Nevertheless I've been in Portugal twice. One of them I visited with my family the city of Elvas, only just 17 km from the Spanish city of Badajoz and it is a really beautiful medieval city and later I visited Faro, in the South of Portugal.
When I saw your photos of Sintra, I sincerely believe that it would be a very nice place to visit.

Let me tell you about the best place I've ever visited. Luckily I travel with my family to different places in Spain at least once a year. Recently, more concretely last year, I visited Segovia in the centre of Spain and I reckon that it is the most beautiful city I've ever visited. But I'd like to emphasize that besides the fact that it's a really nice city, that region has incredible landscapes, forests, different museums, constructions from Ancient Rome (as Acueducto) and the most amazing thing that I could see were the castles and palace from the Middle Ages and some of theirs gardens and theirs awesome fountains, including the stories from them.

I consider these places really interesting and I think that they can show us a lot of the history of our country.

  7. Hi! Oh, my brother when to Sintra and visited the castle. He say that is very impressive and I want go because with the that say my brother and you I think Sintra has to do very spectacular.

I want to recommend go to Cazorla because I went when I was around eleven years old but I remember like there was yestarday. Cazorla is a nature reserve there are many animals for example deers, goats, squirrels... and also there are so much plants. But the most important think of Cazorla it's that Guadalquivir river . It's inspiration, natural and calm place. Also I saw to a museum, wolk in routes , Castillo de la Yedra etc. In Cazorla I bought a cane and a ugly T-shirt about the t-shirt only I have say that is orange and have a red flowers...
Its beauty is inexplicable why I recommend anyone to go.

If you like the places with mystery and adventure I recommend you If you like the places with mystery and adventure I recommend to you to visit this summer the beach of the dead men ``La playa de los muertos´´. This beach is in a dry zone of Almeria, in Cabo de Gata. This one is my favorite beach because it is impressive. To come up to the beach you have to walk a small mountain. The beach has two parts: One is a beach and another part is a cove. In the cove there is an enormous rock! You can be served parasol and you will be able stand the Sun. It has a frightening enough name but when you know why he is called this way you are surprised! If you are charmed with diving under the water this one is your perfect place! If you are charmed with diving under the water this one is your perfect place! Because it has thousands of different species! Goldfishes, starfishes, horses of sea...
If you like to feel the adrenaline in your body here you have the best waves, they are enormous!
This beach is visited by many tourists on all the stations of the year! But it is very dangerous!
If you are charmed with the cliffs you have to go to the cove of enmedio!

  11. Hello Michelle, I'm Noor Glez.! I love Sintra. I think it is one of those places where you stop worrying about the real world and feel really satisfied even doing the most simple thing. Just as the Albaycin, the place I'm going to tell you. It is a neighbourhooh situated in front of the Alhambra. When muslims left the Alhambra, the mayority of them moved to the Albaycin. I lived there when I was a child and I fell in love with it. Even today, if I am on a trip in granada, I have to visit the Albaycin and my friends there, if not, I don't feel complete. Everyboy thinks it is concentrated in the Mirador de San Nicolás. Not at all. That's just a tourists place. To have and amazing and special time in the Albaycin, you have to know where to go and with whom. It is basically build up in hills so it costs some work to get there, but it is worth it. All of those little streets, hidden alleys. You wouldn't imagine how many secrets hide its gorgeous walls. I would recommend everyone to visit it, because once to get to know the Albaycin and its people, you won't be able to leave.
Here I wil leave a blog where you can see some amazing pictures of the Albaycin:

  12. Hi Michelle ,
I am Diana . Sintra is a beautiful place , I love it , someday I will visit this place, since I've been there many times to Portugal, but the most amazing place I 've visited so far has been the white waterfall of Pamukkale , which is in Turkey. I visited Turkey with my family , and we went to sleep for a week in a hotel booked . The guide who came with me and my family told us that the water came cascading Menderes River. As in that area is very cold , water freezes on the outside, but inside the water is moving. In warmer areas there were small lakes because the ice melted . It is truly amazing , I advise you to go someday.

here I leave the link so you can see any photo:

  14. Hi! From what I've read, Sintra seems to be quite cool and very beautiful... Since I love places with so much vegetation and where everything is green, I'll have it in mind so I can maybe visit it in the future ;)
The most amazing place I've been is a small beach in India, called Kudle Beach. I went there with my family when I was 4, but I remember quite a lot about that holidays. The kind of live there was totally diferent to how it is here... The people lived in small clay houses and made nealy everything themselves! They only went to town once a week because it was 1 ohur walking form the beach. But they had everything there: there where cows all around, they grew they own vegetables... The place wasn't that much beautiful, but the kind of live was impressif! I think that's a interesting experience. But before going there you must learn something about country live in India, otherwise you might be shocked ;)
I can't send you photos, sorry, but I'll leave you some links:

  15. Hi! I´m Luis. Sintra looks like a small town with many places to visit. The landscape is green and lush. The waterfall looks lovely! It looks like a great place to see.
I want to tell you about another great place - Toledo.
I went to Toledo last Christmas with my family. The first thing you see when you arrive is the famous castle which contains a museum about Spain and its wars. http://www.fotocommunity.es/pc/pc/display/20001493
If you are interested in Spanish history this is the best museum you can visit in Spain.
If you like Art you must go to the Greco gallery http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g187489-d2136836-i72188478-Museo_del_Greco-Toledo_Province_of_Toledo_Castile_La_Mancha.html
You can see paintings he did in Toledo and also of other places where he lived http://cofrades.pasionensevilla.tv/profiles/blogs/an-lisis-de-una-obra-pict-rica-el-entierro-del-conde-orgaz-el
Toledo was a city where Christians, Jews and Muslims lived together. Today you can visit the 3 neighbourhoods where these people lived and worked.
Toledo has an escalator from the bus station to the main square in the old town http://taller1upb.blogspot.com/2007/09/escaleras-de-la-granja-toledo.html
I hope you like this information about Toledo, especially the escalator.
    See you soon, Luis

  18. hello Michelle, sorry it is a little bit late :/ After reading your text I was amazed. What a beautiful and interesting place. Seeing the pictures I had a strange sensation, it felt like beeing literally in a place full of history and of course mistery. Well, I want to tell you about the most amazing place I've ever been to. But I can't choose the better one, so I'm going to tell you about one of them. Its name is Cadaques and it is situated on the very north of Spain, in Cataluña close to Andorra. To get to Cadaques you have to pass
You drive a good time on a lonely road with curves. The road is surrounded by green hills and occasionally a herd of cows. Finally behind a hill a blue sea and a small village of white houses overlooking the sea appears. You keep going down until you get to the town. It's a town with stone streets, rustic houses and small fishing boats on white beaches. Its so beautiful.
    http://mikestravelguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Cadaqu%C3%A9s-Spain-Boats-in-Harbor.jpg
The townis full of shops, some handmade and others turistics and restaurants next to the beach. The promenade is very nice. If you follow the road that crosses the village, you get to a smaller road that ultimately becomes ground. After driving about 5 minutes you get to a sea inlet on earth and a majestic beach in the background, with a group of houses, even smaller than Cadaqués, around her. There's a very rustic house on one side of the beach. It is the house/museum of painter Dalí. If you continue the road again for about 10 minutes you get to the famous Cap de Creus. You walk up a stone path through to the top of the mountain. On the top of the hill there was a lighthouse. I could see the entire costline full of hills and small and in front of me the inmense and wast sea. The sky was gray and the wind created waves in the sea. There, on the top of the hill feeling so free, watching the immense sea,I really felt as I was at the end of the world. Or at the beginning of it. It was incredible.
