Happy Holidays!

Wow! Here we are on Dec. 20th and the winter break and the holiday season are just around the corner (if the world doesn't end on the 21st, of course. haha). The holidays are always a special time to spend with family, enjoy the different traditions that are celebrated in each house, and, above all, RELAX!!!!. In my family,  I don't have any big plans this holiday season. For Christmas, I will go to my roommates house in the village of Cártama Estación in Málaga. Other than this I will be in Granada relaxing and, hopefully, enjoying some nice weather.

To Watch T.V. or Not To Watch T.V.?

Its 4:00 in the afternoon. You've just eaten lunch and you're sitting in your living room. What do you do? I think most people (including myself) would say turn on the T.V. and sit on the couch for a couple of hours. Read this article about an Australian study that says watching T.V. is negative to your health. What problems does watching too much T.V. create? How many hours of T.V. do you watch every day? What activities do you like to do outside?

 Which picture looks more fun??????

Welcome Note

My Family and I
Hi all and welcome to the 2012/13 bilingual school year!

I would like to take the time in this first post to introduce myself. My name is Dave Whiteside and I will be the English Assistant at I.E.S. Alpujarra this school year. I am from Los Gatos, CA, which is a small town in the South Bay Area about 40 minutes south of San Francisco and 15 minutes east of the Santa Cruz coast. I have one older sister, Kiyoko, and a nephew, Matthew. The also live in Los Gatos, as well as my parents, Phil and Linda. Before coming to Spain, I was a substitute teacher and a basketball coach at Los Gatos High School. I have been in Granada for the last two years working at the tourism school Hurtado de Mendoza. This year I have been placed here in Órgiva and am very excited to work with the bilingual students of the school. They all seem very eager to learn and it will be fun to watch as their linguistic ability, comprehension, and overall mastery of the language improves throughout the year. Please tell me a bit about yourself.

Good luck to all!

Something we all like to do in our free time...SLEEP!!!

So,

medical science is finally saying what I've been saying for years.  We need more sleep and schools need to start later!!!  It's healthy for everybody, especially the students.  Just check out this article and tell me what you think:
